Located in Prague's city center, the Langhans building with 24-hour reception and free Wi-Fi internet and home to the Two-Bedroom Magnetic, Two-Bedroom Modern, Two-Bedroom Metropolitan, Metropolitan Duplex and the Glass Penthouse apartment, is an eclectic blend of history and modernity. Jan Langhans, a successful businessman and photographer, purchased the building in 1880 and turned the space into the most prestigious photography studio in the land of Bohemia, a studio that forever captured the images of famous Czechs and everyday citizens. The photography studio was in operation from 1880 to 1948. In 1991 the building with the studio was returned to the family and after years of neglect architects and the family set out to restore a once grand building; their ambitious project was a success. In 2003 Langhans Gallery Prague was established by the great-granddaughter, Zuzana Meisnerova-Wismer and architect Ladislav Labus received the prestigious Building of the Year award. The building is a satisfying mixture of modern architectural elements with the beauty and echoes of the past.
The location of the building is convenient indeed. Located off of famous Wenceslas Square and close to the Metro and multiple tramlines, it is in the center of Prague and is surrounded by hip cafes, movie theaters, fine restaurants, impressive shopping, and of course, Langhans Gallery. The back of the building faces the lovely, tranquil Franciscan Garden, home to the Gothic Church of our Lady of the Snows which is a quiet haven in the middle of the bustling city - some of the apartments face the garden, while others face Vodičkova Street - a New Town street with pretty Art Nouveau buildings. Building amenities include cable TV, free Wi-Fi Internet, lift, washer and dryer, weekly cleaning, a 24-hour security guard plus 24-hour reception desk. Parking is available in nearby garages.
