One of the most important musical events in the Czech Republic, the Strings of Autumn (Struny podzimu) festival, taking place in Prague, will bring in some of the most significant personalities on the contemporary international music scene. The festival presents a musical crossroads of classical and jazz music; of tradition and experiment. From September till November 2012 (September 23 - November 3) the festival will present a selection of jazz, classical music, sophisticated crossover, early music, and world music performed by some of the most important figures currently on the world music scene. The festival's program is divided into three lines: Inspiration, which will present debut performances by foreign musicians and premieres commissioned by the festival, Crossover, which will present the Czech debuts of significant foreign performers in unexpected contexts or new interpretations, and Luminaries, which is composed of major Czech and foreign performers. Spectators of this year's festival can look forward to the counter-tenor star Phillipe Jaroussky who will perform the aria of the famous Baroque castrato Farinelli together with the Venice Baroque Orchestra, as well as the American cello virtuoso Alisa Weilerstein who will perform Bach, Kodaly and Britten at St. Anne's Church, and Sony Rollins, a true saxophone giant and jazz legend who has already celebrated his 81st birthday. During the weekend of October 19-21, 2012 musical and art workshops, concerts and games for children as well as their young-at-heart parents will take place at the Minor Theater. Tickets for the Strings of Autumn festival can be purchased at the National Theater ticket box, at Ticketpro, or you can order them online at the official website of the festival at www.strunypodzimu.cz.
