Vltavska Cultural Center

Located in Holešovice close to the Vltava River and Vltavská Metro stop is the popular Vltavská Cultural Center [KC Vltavská] offering a rich program designed with everyone in mind, ensuring that all ages will enjoy an array of performances in all genres. At the center you will find live music in the Large and Elektra Halls that showcase well and less known international and Czech bands plus up-and-coming independent artists from all over the globe. In the past for example Primal Scream, Morcheeba, bratři Ebenové, Lamb, Nouvelle Vague and many other excellent musicians performed here, so it certainly pays off to follow the Vltavská Cultural Center's program. Besides concerts KC Vltavská offers also courses for children and regular Sunday performances by theater groups from all over the Czech Republic that are geared towards children but can be enjoyed by adults as well. Regular lectures and seminars plus weekend workshops covering diverse topics such as history, culture, health and lifestyle can also be attended at the culture center. If you are searching for language lessons, exercise classes, music, fine arts or craft courses, the Vltavská Cultural Center offers all of these and more. It is interesting to note that the building of the cultural center is interesting in itself. The Elektrické podniky Functionalist building was built according to a design by architects Adolf Benš and Josef Kříž and it was ceremoniously opened in 1935. With a total floor area of 34.000 m2 it was the biggest administrative building in Prague at its time featuring many progressive technical and constructional solutions that have been preserved until today. KC Vltavská currently uses the space on the ground floor and underground floors of the building.
