Janja Prokić

The unconventional jewelry designer Janja Prokić creates art and jewelry of an almost aristocratic character, unique in the world of Czech jewelry design. Her jewelry tends to be richly decorated, which differentiates it strongly from the minimalist approach of the majority of Czech jewelry designers. Janja Prokić loves the natural world and is abundantly inspired by the rich world of flora and fauna. Her jewelry includes bracelets, rings, pins and earrings with birds, deer, foxes and other animal motifs. She primarily uses silver, gemstones, and natural unprocessed stones. Besides gaining inspiration from animal symbolism in various cultures, Janja Prokić, originally from Belgrade, draws much of her inspiration from the Serbian cultural tradition. She is also interested in shamanism, and likes to project through her jewelry what she is currently going through emotionally. Together with Nastassia Aleinkava she was nominated for the Czech Grand Design 2011 Award in the category of Jewelry Designer for their Lure collection. Janja Prokić was born in Serbia and moved with her parents to Prague in 1993. Later, she spent three years in the French region of Brittany before more recently returning to Prague. Janja Prokić studied painting in Vladimír Skrepl's studio at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, but then changed the subject of her study to sculpture, which she studied at Kurt Gebauer's studio at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design. Currently she is a student at Eva Eisler's K.O.V. studio. Her products can be purchased in Klára Nademlýnská's fashion boutique at Dlouhá 3, and in Artěl stores on Celetná and U Lužického Semináře streets in Prague.
