Located a mere stone’s throw away from Old Town Square, Maitrea is Prague’s new vegetarian restaurant. The restaurant consists of two levels, the top level being small and intimate and full of natural light; the bottom level is spacious, warm and welcoming. The wooden tailor-made booths, Buddha decorations, fountains, a fireplace and design low lighting make the bottom level a quiet and lovely haven from the bustling Old Town of Prague. The vegetarian menu is interesting and very affordable. Maitrea is the sister restaurant of Clear Head, a Vegetarian restaurant quite known for its quality food and always packed dining room. The restaurant offers daily lunch specials that include water, soup and an entrée for 105kc, a price that is hard to beat in the center of a touristy city like Prague. The daily offers are exciting and varied including soups such as carrot soup with ginger and vegetable soup with red lentils to name a few, and tasty dishes such as baked eggplant with green beans, red cabbage, rice and lettuce and a quesadilla with smoked tempeh, olives, salsa and rice. Lunchtime is very busy at Maitrea, so it might be a smart move to make reservations if you want that fantastic lunch menu. And don't forget to try Maitrea's rich and dark Hot Chocolate, served plain or with chili powder and nuts sprinkled on top.
