The Black Ox – U cerneho vola

Situated in the lovely Loreta Square is the Black Ox pub. The Black Ox is one of the last authentic Czech pubs in Hradcany, the Castle District of Prague. The Black Ox, a true throw back to the past, is a traditional Czech pub that houses a majority of locals drinking fresh Kozel beer from the tap with the occasional tourist thrown in. The ancient interior features rather atmospheric original vaulted ceilings, walls decorated with old coat of arms from the ancient royal families of Bohemia and long wooden tables to complete the authentic feel. The beer hall serves authentic Czech cuisine as well, but of course the real winner here is the beer served fresh and cold from the tap. As the Black Ox is a traditional pub, you can be sure it will be thick with a haze of smoke and full of happy tipsy locals. It is of course appreciated if you can at least say a few words in Czech to appease the barmen. This bar is still the same as it was in the 1980s, with a true atmosphere that is becoming harder and harder to find in the growing city of Prague.
