Galerie Supermarket WC

Gallery Supermarket WC is a gallery, shop with design goods and a small café in the center of Karlovy Vary, where it was created in 2008 from a former public toilet and a left-luggage office. An unkempt building turned into a multifunctional space with barrier-free access thanks to the civic association PROTEBE live. The venue is used not only for exhibitions but also for lectures, forums, gatherings of young people, representatives of various organizations and the public. Also an adjoining underpass belongs to the gallery where projects are exhibited directly in public space and so immediate communication with passers-by can go on. The aim of the Gallery Supermarket WC is to provide space for art that has currently the tendency to penetrate into public space. The gallery's exhibition programme presents design in social context. Gallery Supermarket WC provides, besides others, also space to the beginning and unknown authors and non-profit organizations. Gallery can be rented for private and public events with catering and related services. Visitors to the gallery can refresh in the mini café and spend money in the design shop and so support the gallery itself, since the proceeds are spent on its operation and development. The gallery, shop and café are open on weekdays between 1pm and 6pm.
