Archa Theater

A critically important public forum for modern entertainment in current times, Archa Theater, which is located in a functionalist bank palace in the center of Prague is a center and production house for contemporary stage art that knows no barriers regarding genre. With no steady ensemble, Archa Theater’s many varied performances are created as independent productions or as collaborations with like-minded organizations in the Czech Republic and abroad; these unique projects that usually combine different cultures and ideas. During many years of its existence (Archa was ceremoniously opened in 1994) the theater has welcomed many personalities from the sphere of art, such as the director Robert Wilson, choreographers Wim Vandekeybus, Anna Teresa de Keersmaeker and Jan Fabre, musicians David Byrne, Einstürzende Neubauten, Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová, Meredith Monk, White Stripes and many more. Troupes, such as the Royal Shakespeare Company, Cheek By Jowl, Handspring Puppet Company, performed here, among others, and the American poet Allen Ginsberg held one of his last readings at Archa. Archa Theater is located close to many public transportation options (including the Masarykovo Train Station) and is therefore easily accessible from anywhere in and outside of Prague.
