Summer Festivities of Early Music – Festa!

It’s that time again for the Summer Festivities of Early Music festival that takes place every summer at various places in Prague! The 12th festival will take place between the 22nd of July and the 8th of August 2011. As the only festival of its kind in Prague and central Bohemia it presents music of historical periods performed by excellent foreign interpreters playing originals or replicas of historic musical instruments. This year of the festival called Festa! focuses on the ceremonial function of music at various festivities and ceremonies and concentrates on the Renaissance and Baroque periods. The festival will present a number of top-class soloists and ensembles, such as the German ensemble Musica Fiata with the soprano Dorothee Mields, Capella de Ministrers from Spain that will present Renaissance music from the time of the Crown of Aragon, the Belgian vocal ensemble Capilla Flamenca and the French Les Lunaisiens who will take us to the Versailles court of Luis XIV. Also this year concerts will take place at attractive places such as the Břevnov Monastery, Hvězda Summer Palace, Troja Chateau or the Ball Game Hall and Spanish Hall of the Prague Castle.
