Eiga-Sai 2012 – Festival of Japanese Film and Culture

The fifth year of the Eiga-Sai – Festival of Japanese Film and Culture will take place from January 20th till January 26th 2012 in Prague's Lucerna cinema. This year bears the subtitle “Homage to Kitano Takeshi”, whose movies will form the core of this year's festival. Kitano Takeshi, who also writes books and paints, has the creation of each of his movies firmly in hands from the origin of the script to the final editing of the movie. The festival will be opened with Takeshi's movie Fireworks that was awarded the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival in 1998. The retrospective of Takeshi's works will be completed with Japanese films from the 1950s till 1980s that were part of the “Japanese New Wave”. All movies, some of which will be shown in the Czech Republic for the first time, will be shown in their original versions with both Czech and English subtitles. The weekend of January 21st and 22nd will feature an especially rich accompanying program for adults and children alike (concerts, exhibitions, debates, workshops, theater performances). The festival will show altogether 14 movies and for the first time this year spectators will have the possibility to buy tickets for individual movies for CZK 80 online.
