The Carlos Fuentes Library at the Cervantes Institute
If you are intrigued by Spanish and Hispanic American culture, do not miss the Carlos Fuentes Library, which is operated by the Cervantes Institute. The Cervantes Institute is based in Madrid, Spain and promotes the beauty and importance of the Spanish-language culture all around the world. In 2005 the Prague branch of the Cervantes Institute on Na Rybnicku Street was inaugurated by the Spanish Crown Prince and Princess. The Cervantes Institute offers Spanish language courses, the DELE language exam and a wide cultural program that includes fine arts, film, and music and theater events. The Carlos Fuentes Library, named after the Mexican writer was established in 2006 and it offers a rich selection of books and other material including textbooks, encyclopedias, current magazines and newpapers, CDs, DVDS, sheet music, maps and more. The books offered of course deal with countries where Spanish is the official language making the Carlos Fuentes Library an establishment with a rich, cultural selection for anyone interested in this culture. The majority of the books and documents are in Spanish, however the library does carry titles in Czech, Catalan, Galician and Basque. All of the books, newpapers and magazines are available for free onsite reading. If you wish to check out books to read in the comfort of your own home, you will have to sign up for a free library card.
