Baťa Shoes
Located in various Prague locations, and known throughout Europe for making affordable quality shoes, is the shoe company Baťa. Baťa was founded by the Henry Ford of Eastern Europe, Tomáš Baťa who established what is today one of the worlds largest multinational retailers, manufacturers and distributors of footwear. Tomáš Baťa and his family became one of the first mass producers of shoes due to a large order for sturdy military shoes during World War I, which started the rapid growth of the company. Currently based in Bermuda, with the headquarters being in Lausanne, Switzerland, Baťa is under the supervision of Thomas G. Bata, Tomáš Baťa’s grandson. Baťa is a household name in the Czech Republic and around the world with a retail presence in over 50 countries and production factories in 26 countries. Baťa has sold over 14 billion pairs of shoes in its fashionable shoe history. Although Baťa shoe stores are situated throughout Prague and the Czech Republic, we recommend visiting the flagship store located on world famous Wenceslas Square. The flagship Baťa store is the largest Baťa store in Europe and features five floors of quality innovative footwear and accessories for women, men and children including dress, casual and sport shoes. It is also interesting to note that the building is one of Prague’s many Functionalist gems.
