The Drowned Maid

In the beautiful district of Old Town in the gorgeous city of Prague there sits a most lovely building titled the House at the Golden Well. This particular house, with one of Old Town’s most splendidly decorated facades was and still is surrounded by an air of mystery. A most colorful rumor once circulated the neighborhood pubs that in the courtyard of said house there was a well full of priceless treasures. One night Lubomíra, a maid from the house was full of curiosity and decided to have a look at the well with no intention of descending into the murky depths of the cold abyss. After leaning over to get a better look, the poor maid fell into the well and struggled until death overcame her. The owner of the house then had the well cleaned out on the order of city authorities and to everyone’s surprise a loose rock fell from the side and hundreds of thousands of gold coins rained down upon the well making the owner very wealthy indeed. The Drowned Maid was not dealt such a happy fate though and spends her evenings haunting the environs of the house, dripping wet with drooping hair, chattering teeth and weeping eyes. She can only be saved if one of the original coins from the well is used to aid a good-doer in prayer for her drowned soul.
