Perníková chaloupka – Gingerbread House
In a land far far away – in fact only some 120 km outside of Prague – is Perníková Chaloupka, a gingerbread house from the fairy tale Hansel and Gretel, which is a must for all lovers of fairy tales. The Perníková Chaloupka Museum of Gingerbread and Fairytales, under the medieval Kunětická Hora castle near Pardubice and Hradec Králové, is located in a former hunting lodge from the end of the 19th century and offers attractions for both parents and children. While adults will be enthralled by the presentation of the history of gingerbread and gingerbread craftsmanship in the Pardubice region, children will enjoy hearing an unusual reflection on the popular fairy tale of Hansel and Gretel. All information is presented in an entertaining way and always suited to the particular group of visitors. The exhibition at Perníková Chaloupka contains more than 1,000 gingerbread pieces from all over the Czech Republic. Besides the Museum of Gingerbread with its Gingerbread Town, you can also visit the enchanted fairy tale forest and get a honey gingerbread cookie from the witch's Gingerbread Workshop. The visit to the museum is designed to delight all of your senses at once. You can visit Perníková Chaloupka all year long, except for January and February when it is usually closed for the installation of new exhibits. Throughout the year various events take place regularly at Perníková Chaloupka including the Witch Awakening connected with the traditional Czech pig slaughtering feast, and an exciting Easter celebration, and the Witch Competition on the 30th of April.
