Žleby Game Park
About a five-minute walk from the Žleby Chateau there is a 130-hectare game park with unique White Elk. It also includes a smaller game park exhibit covering the area of 6 hectares which was established in 1998 with the aim of presenting these lovely blue-eyed White Elk and the history of falconry to the general public. Besides some 6 to 10 rare White Elk, visitors in the summer months can also see rare birds of prey and owls (such as Peregrine Falcons, Saker Falcons, Harris' Hawks, Long-Eared Owls, Eurasian Eagle Owls, Barn Owls), as well as water birds and animals belonging to the weasel family. The historical origin of White Elk has not been unequivocally proven, but most probably their original home was in Persia. White Elk were brought to the territory of the current Czech Republic in 1780, but these elk have not survived in the wild. In the Žleby Game Park you can see these rare animals from a distance of 10 – 15 meters when they are fed at 12 and 3:30 p.m. Visitors can also see wild boar, Mouflons (wild sheep), Fallow deer, does, wild turkeys, White Storks, Great Cormorants, Mute Swans, and a variety of ducks and geese. You will also find a shelter for injured or handicapped animals and a wooden cabin offering refreshments and housing an exhibition about the history of the breeding of the White Elk. You can visit the little game park from May 1st till September 30th between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. It is ideal to combine your visit with a tour of the Žleby Chateau or with a visit to the nearby Kutná Hora or Kolín Aqua Parks and other attractions in the vicinity.
