Cermak Eisenkraft
Founded in 2014 by Tomáš Zapletal and David Železný with the goal of becoming a leading dealer in post-war and contemporary Czech and international art, the Cermak Eisenkraft gallery is set on Dlouhá Street in Prague’s Old Town. This gallery is home to fantastic artworks from artists including František Kupka, Emil Filla, Magdalena Jetelova, Federico Díaz, Kirstine Roepstorff, Matyáš Chochola, and Josef Šíma, to name a few. The art on display and for sale is of the utmost quality and is offered at fair prices. Art lovers and collectors are afforded confidentiality and transparency in all their purchases. The name of the gallery is surely to spike the interest of historians. Cermak is the surname of Tomáš Zapletal’s forebear, the prominent Chicago politician, Anton Cermak who died after being hit by an assassin’s bullet that was intended for Franklin D. Roosevelt. Cermak, the mayor of Chicago, was known for his honesty and for bringing unsavory characters to justice, including Al Capone. Eisenkraft is the original Jewish name of the Železný family. David’s grandfather, Tordes Eisenkraft, was a WWII hero who fought at Sokolov with the army of General Ludvík Svoboda and was a recipient of the Czechoslovak War Cross, among other medals. Zapletal and Železný have certainly created a brand that is reputable in the world of art dealing, one that upholds the highest ethical standards, no doubt. If you are looking to add to your art collection, or to simply start one, head to the Cermak Eisenkraft gallery today.
Cermak Eisenkraft also operates a spacious pop up gallery on the third floor of a building dedicated to art and design on the Smetanovo nábřeží embankment. The gallery hosts temporary exhibitions of current artists.
