Vernon Gallery
Vernon Gallery comprises several projects whose common goals are mainly the support of young contemporary art, as well as organizing of exhibitions of classical masters. The Vernon Gallery was founded in 2001 by its director Monika Burian Jourdan with the aim of presenting to the public quality art of both contemporary and classical genres. It does so mainly at the Vernon Projekt exhibition space and at other places, as well as in the newly opened Vernon Depot gallery. Vernon Projekt is an atypical exhibition space opened in 2006 and designated for young progressive artists that is located in a former shop window on the corner of Janovského and Heřmanova streets in Prague's Letná. The concept of the space makes it possible for passers-by to peek inside and feast their eyes on works of art from the area of new media by young artists. The Vernon Depot exhibition space in Prague's Holešovice was opened in the fall of 2011 on the fourth floor of a building that used to serve as a warehouse. The exhibition space featuring lots of windows and with the area of 200 m2 is also designated for contemporary art. Besides supporting young artists the Vernon Gallery also holds bigger exhibitions of classical art and big masters and presents to the Czech public themes and authors who have not been exhibited in the Czech Republic or are not well known here. One of these projects was, for example, the exhibition of Amedeo Modigliani at the Municipal House (Dec 9th, 2010 – March 14th, 2011) that presented the work of this exceptional artist for the first time in the Czech Republic. The same applied to the first photographic exhibition of the Swiss fashion photographer Michel Comte (Feb 18th – Apr 5th, 2011) that Vernon held in cooperation with Leica Gallery Prague. From 2012 the Vernon Gallery will take over the organization of the TINA B. Festival of Contemporary Art that focuses on the presentation of works in the area of new media, light art, video art and performances by artists from all over the world. In 2011 it is organizing the German section of the festival.
