Lipno Dam

The Lipno Dam, sometimes referred to as the 'Czech Sea', is the largest man-made dam in the Czech Republic and covers an area of more than 48 square kilometers. The dam, located by the southern border of the Czech Republic and neighboring Sumava National Park is a popular vacation destination during all seasons, and offers plenty of opportunities for those who want to be active or just relax and get to know the beautiful south-Bohemian landscape. If you decide to explore Lipno and its surroundings in the summer, you will be able to rent a boat, a motorboat or a paddleboat, a bike, an electronic bike, in-line skates, a scooter as well as other sports equipment or you can, of course, use the many swimming opportunities at Lipno Dam. When it comes to less common activities you could try the unique treetop walkway which offers breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside as well as of the different levels of the forest and features the longest dry toboggan in the Czech Republic as well as 17 other "adrenalin" stops and a 40 meter-high watchtower. This unique path was opened in 2012 and is wheelchair accessible. The Lipno Dam area is also a popular destination of winter-sport lovers since it offers great skiing opportunities including ski-slopes, chair-lifts, ski-buses and ski-trains, ski-rentals as well as a ski-school. If you get tired of winter sports, you will surely appreciate the nearby Lipno Waterpark featuring a Finnish sauna, a water slide and a massage studio. The Lipno Dam area has something to offer during all seasons and a visit can be combined with visiting other tourist sights in the southern Bohemia such as Cesky Krumlov or the Boubin Forest.
