Litomysl Chateau
The Renaissance Litomyšl Chateau was added to UNESCO’s list of world heritage sites in 1999. The Central European residence dominates the town and acts as the center for cultural events and local history. The interior of the chateau is open during the warmer months while the exterior castle grounds and gardens are open year round. The chateau’s interior showcases a chapel, a billiard room, library, and a massive crystal chandelier that was commissioned for the famous film Amadeus by Miloš Forman. A Baroque Theater makes the interior even more priceless, which is one of only five working Baroque theaters in the world (there is another one in the Czech Republic in the charming town of Cesky Krumlov). The exterior façade of the Litomyšl Chateau is covered with an intricate sgrafftio design depicting local legends and fables. The Litomyšl Chateau also features formal gardens with stable buildings, statues and massive old trees plus views of the center of Litomyšl. In the gardens you will also see an entrance to a cellar where you can find a sculpture exhibition by Czech artist Olbram Zoubek.
