*The first signing of Angela Merkel's memoirs will take place on 3 June 2025 at the Luxor Palace of Books on Wenceslas Square in Prague.* On 3 June, Angela Merkel will present her memoirs Freedom for the first time in Prague, where the public will be able to have the book published by the publishing house Práh, which is a partner of the event, signed directly by the author. *Life in the GDR, memories of Prague, the fall of the Berlin Wall, German reunification, Obama, Trump and Biden, Putin and Zelensky, the occupation of Crimea, climate conferences, economic challenges, covid, the war in Ukraine... Angela Merkel led the German government for sixteen years and shaped German, European and international politics and society through her actions and attitudes. In her memoirs, she looks back on life in two German states - the GDR until 1990 and the reunified Germany since 1990. How did she, a woman from the East, manage to lead the CDU and become the first Chancellor of a reunified Germany? And how did she come to be one of the most powerful government leaders in the Western world? What inspired her?* In her book Freedom she describes her daily life as Chancellor as well as the dramatic days and nights when she took decisions of major importance in Berlin, Brussels and elsewhere. She charts the evolution of international cooperation and reveals the pressures politicians are under today as they seek solutions to complex problems in a globalised world. It gives us a glimpse behind the scenes of international politics and explains how crucial personal conversations can be - and where their limits lie. *Practical information:* - Due to the time constraints of the event, no other books will be available for signing, nor will any items, photographs, or alternative publications by other authors. - The maximum limit of books to be signed is 3 books/person. - Ticket check-in will be done under heightened security measures. - A check of participants' luggage is part of the conditions for entry to the designated event area. - Luxor, as the event organizer, reserves the right to refuse admission to a duly registered attendee in the event of the attendee's refusal to check suspicious luggage. - The shop will be adapted for this event, starting at 16:00.
