Lednice-Valtice Cultural Landscape

Lednice and Valtice are two towns in the South Moravian Region that make up the Lednice-Valtice Cultural Landscape, a UNESCO protected natural area of 283,09 km2 that is know for its supreme beauty and is the most popular attraction in South Moravia. The area is known for its hospitable people with colorful folk traditions and customs and Moravian wine. The landscaped area dates back to the end of the 18th century when the House of Liechtenstein started to create the unique paradise of sorts. In the 19th century the family continued to transform the large green space, which has the nickname ‘Garden of Europe’ into what it is today, a large park area with two centers, the town of Lednice and its neo Gothic castle and the town of Valtice and its castle. In the landscaped park you can see the two castles, a tall minaret that provides views of the whole garden, temples, the Scottish ruins of Janohrad (an imitation of a Scottish castle ruin), ponds, connecting paths for bicycles and much more.
