The castle of Frýdlant is located in the Liberec region of the Czech Republic and is one of the country’s most visited castles. The Gothic structure was first mentioned as being under the ownership of the Ronovci House, however in 1278 the Bohemian King Přemysl Otakar II gave the structure and lordship to Rulek of Bieberstein instead. If you visit Frýdlant Castle today you will see the original Gothic castle with a high tower blended together with a large Renaissance chateau. The Renaissance addition occurred between the 16th and 17th centuries due to the influence of such noble houses as Bibrstein, Redern, Clam-Gallas and Albrecht of Wallenstein. The gorgeous castle, one of the first European castles and monuments to be open to the public made its debut as a museum in 1801. As one of the most visited and loveliest castles in the Czech Republic, make sure to include Frýdlant Castle on your list of royal structures to visit.
